Turn Me On Tuesday

Mac Power Button TattooI’ve been quiet around these parts lately… I am sure you are wondering why. The truth is, picking up a book has been painful… nothing seems to grab my attention. I don’t know if the craptastic Bullet is to blame or if I am just in a slump, but I think it is time for me to take a break from paranormal romance.

So… I am introducing Turn Me On Tuesday… a day where I try to find new books and authors I haven’t heard of before but want to start reading. I am hoping I can turn you on to something new… get it? hah. If you have someone you think I would like, please contact me and let me know! I am especially interested in male UF writers or male UF points of view.

Anyway, today’s Turn Me On Tuesday book is….

Title: Sandman Slim
Author Richard Kadrey
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Publication Date: 1st Aug. 2009

Summary:
Supernatural fantasy has a new antihero

Life sucks, and then you die. Or, if you’re James Stark, you spend eleven years in Hell as a hitman before finally escaping, only to land back in the hell-on-earth that is Los Angeles.

Now Stark’s back, and ready for revenge. And absolution, and maybe even love. But when his first stop saddles him with an abusive talking head, Stark discovers that the road to absolution and revenge is much longer than you’d expect, and both Heaven and Hell have their own ideas for his future.

Resurrection sucks. Saving the world is worse.

Darkly twisted, irreverent, and completely hilarious, Sandman Slim is the breakthrough novel by an acclaimed author

Next In Series:
Kill the Dead – October 5, 2010

I just started this one this morning and already love it. Great opening paragraph/quote and it has already used the phrase “asshole of creation”. Fingers crossed it continues to rock.

Oh and as a side note… I am over at MamaKitty‘s book blog talking about why I love to read today, stop by and say something!

  • Its not really urban fantasy but one of my favorite male fantasy authors is Garth Nix. The books are called Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen or the combined in one book version called The Old Kingdom. I also really enjoy Scott Westerfeld and his book called Peeps is somewhat Urban Fantasy but I also really enjoy his Uglies series. I am sorry you didn’t like Bullet!! I really did like it (despite how much sex is still involved and her creamy lady parts). I enjoy your reviews and I hope you get out of your reading funk!!

  • You should read Shadow Bound by Erin Kellison. I read it recently and loved it. I would call it a paranormal suspense rather than an UF or PNR. There is romance but honestly I think it would have worked just as well or better without it.

  • Amy:

I was in a similar slump a while ago and picked up the first Vampire Academy book and got hooked on reading paranormal stuff again. I know I keep bugging you about that series but you have to read it! I will feel like an idiot if you don’t like it though LOL!

  • I wish I had more UF books to suggest, but I’m just now getting into the genre, myself. So, maybe I’ll learn something from Turn Me On Tuesdays, as well! :) Lemme know what you think of this one – looks interesting!

  • elovold:

well since you are my Yoda of books I am no help. I just had to check out the post because, well, your title kinda sucked me in.

  • This is one I want to check out. Thanks for the review! On the subject of UF books, I love Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty books (they’re about a DJ werewolf named Kitty) and they’re just killer. :) I’m fond of Kim Harrison’s works, as well. Sherrilyn Kenyon is good too, though she pushes a closer to the Paranormal Romance line.

  • Just caught your site off another blog. Loving my Kindle to death as well, have mine for 15 mos now. Still keep the traditional books, but kindle just rocks. Your tips are great!

so sad so very sad about anita :( wtf did Hamilton do here, I haven’t been able to bring myself to read another since Danse Macbre. That rap about just being ticked cuz of too much sex is horse crap. There is no rhyme or reason and the ardeur is just absurd now. I can’t do it it’s driving me ape! Another thing that has just killed me is what she did with Richard. Here is a character that she describes as just gorgeous and she turned him into a wimpy whiner. What a terrible waste of an awesome character.

New follower now, great blog you’ve got!
