Saturday (eh Sunday?!?) Sound Off (4)
I had totally planned on getting to this post yesterday, but homework and the kids took up too much time! My classes are kicking my butt right now and I took the kids out for a magic show and dinner last night. Late is better than never, so here I am, with my weekly wrap up.
My efforts to be organized this week….not successful. I will try again this week. Biggest fail? Actually cooking dinner every night. After a long day of kid wrangling and homework and volunteering at schools the last thing I want to do is make dinner and we have all been suffering because of it. But I need to get on top of it, so that is my goal this week!
The big blog world news this week –well besides MacMillan showing its ass and going toe to toe with Amazon — COVERS! There have been a multitude of covers released this week. I was going to post them all but Jackie over at Literary Escapism totally saved me some time and posted a cover wrap (and more!) here. Besides lots of new covers posted, we got some revised covers revealed.
Vicky Pettersson’s Cheat the Grave loses the sulking piece of man candy and some tattoos.

Kelley Armstrong’s Waking the Witch also gets a new look, less motorcycle, more Savannah. I didn’t really have a preference at first but the more I see the new cover, the more I like it better.

Additionally Richelle Mead posted that the Georgina Kincaid series is getting a cover makeover for the mass market edition of the series. I LOVE the new covers, so much better than the originals. Have no fear, the original cover style will continue on with the trade paperbacks.

I will be posting over at FictionVixen‘s place this week about my “love story.” She is doing a whole month about love, make sure to stop by!
If you haven’t entered my contest to win an ebook copy of Crux by Moira Rogers….go ahead and click here now! You will not regret it! Deadline is tomorrow, February 8th. Don’t forgot that Moira Rogers will be answering all my evil questions on February 9th, please stop by and help me harrass celebrate them!
Speaking of the talented team of Moira Rogers, the Bree half of that duo posted one of my absolute favorite author takes on book piracy here! She is one smart cookie. Read it, you won’t be sorry.
By the way, the re-release of Happy Hour of the Damned is upon us and I hear that Mark Henry is making people pee themselves with laughter over on Bitten by Books. You can find a link to video blogs and interviews here.

Everytime I see your post, I dislike school even more! I could read that many books in one week… But school is stupid… Well, not exactly, but it does interfere with my reading! I was just able to read “Happy Hour of the Damned”…
Now I am reading “The Accidental Werewolf” and after that one I have “Road Trip of the Living Dead,” “Personal Demons,” and “Blood Engines” =)
You are going to like “Dead to Me” and “Deader Still”… They are cool!
Also… I liked the tattoo on the original cover of “Cheat the Grave”, as for the others, I like the new ones, too =P

Ale – school definitely impedes my reading time! I am sacrificing quite a bit of sleep to keep up right now LOL!
I can’t wait to start Anton’s books!
I am finishing my current book tonight and will start them next.
wow… you are my hero right now *bows down*
School is def. killing me, but I am thinking that maybe I should try harder now =) I can do it, right? right ^-^
But really, I think that what yer doing is pretty amazing
*kudos*

Totally agree about the new ‘Georgina’ covers. I always thought it was odd that Georgina is a totally smokin’ succubus, yet the cover model isn’t all that attractive (especially on the ‘Succubus Heat’ cover). Mead has said the new cover art model is closer to how she pictures Georgina in her mind anyway.
I’m also nonplused about the new ‘Waking the Witch’ cover. I thought the first one was pretty cool, but I can see that the revision is a bit sexier (I personally prefer the UK cover).

Danielle – I have never been a fan of the old covers, they were very blah to me when the story was so very good! I agree with you about the UK cover of Waking the Witch tho, I absolutely LOVE it!
I like the lack of man candy on the new Pettersson. The girl was the only one who drew my eye anyway. I’m with you on the Armstrong cover. The first one was pretty nice, but I like the new one more and more. I hadn’t seen the new Mead cover and I have to say that definitely draws my eye more than the other one does. It’s more vibrant.
You are not preparing me for school. *grins* Ian starts preschool (officially) this fall.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m a big fail at cooking dinner during the week also. I usually only manage to cook 2 or 3 times, if the family is lucky.
I think the new cover for V. Pettersson is much better. Actually I like the revised covers for all the books you have listed here. Very eye grabbing.

I agree, I like the loss of man candy too, it wasn’t good enough lol. may be the one and only time I EVER say something like that!
Keeping my fingers cross for you that this week is a better week for you.. Hang in there…..
A little trick I learned long ago – was do a bunch of meal in one day and freeze – works magic on the evenings when you have nothing left in the tank…
Love your kindle books this week – I just got Thurman and a few others for the challenge…
I just finish Kat Richardson – I loved it….
Have a good week hon….

I love the new Waking the Witch cover. Oft repeated wisdom is that people don’t like faces on their covers that distract from their image of the characters, but I love them. They feel more like people with personalities to me than bodypart salad. I think the colors on the new WtW cover are way more sophisticated too. The neon-glowing font plopped over the picture wasn’t doing it for me. LOL
Of course, I mourn for the missing 4 inches of Savannah’s shirt, lost in a tragic Urban Fantasy midriff-baring accident.

I prefer the revised covers for all three over the originals
